Advanced SEO Tips

We've talked about some of the basics of search engine optimization (SEO) in this space before, but here are a few more advanced tips and tricks to get you started.

First off, focus on user experience. While your site may be optimized well enough to appear on page one of the SERPs, it's not going to convert if people don't even know that you exist. If you're not showing up in local searches or in social media posts, then you need to make sure your business is visible everywhere else. Start with good design and user interface, build out an awesome content plan, use all the tools available to you, and let search engines help you spread the word.

Overhaul your "almost" first page posts

As we discussed last week, there are hundreds of different types of posts that can rank in Google. Some will perform better than others depending on what your goal is, so you should take the time to review your current post types and determine which ones are performing best. A great way to do this is by using Google AdWords keyword tool, which allows you to see which keywords people are searching for when they type into Google. You can also check out Moz Pro's keyword research feature where you can enter a number of keywords and see how many times those terms are being searched for.

Once you have determined which post types you should optimize for, start overhauling the ones that aren't ranking as well as you'd like them to. The biggest mistake I see small businesses making is simply posting something once or twice a month with no real intention of updating it over time. It doesn't matter if it's an article, a blog post, a video, or any other format, if you don't update your content regularly, you'll lose your audience eventually. Not only does it make readers lose interest, it makes Google less likely to index your pages and show them to searchers.

Tapping the potential of video

Video is a big trend right now among marketers who want to boost their conversions, improve customer engagement, and increase overall sales. There's nothing stopping you from creating videos today; however, most business owners are still hesitant to invest money in high-quality video production. Luckily, you can easily create short videos with just a smartphone camera and editing software programs like iMovie and Adobe Premiere Elements. For example, I used my iPhone 6s to record a quick video explaining how to navigate my website, and I posted it on YouTube and Facebook. Within hours, it had been viewed thousands of times!

There are plenty of other ways to use video on your website without having to hire a professional. You could embed it directly onto your landing pages or posts, or try adding it to your blog posts or ebooks. Even posting it to your social media accounts and sharing it throughout your network can drive traffic back to your site. Just remember that the quality of the video matters far more than the quantity. Don't skimp on the lighting or sound effects, and make sure the person speaking is clear and audible.

Rank for featured snippets

If you're looking to increase your visibility and boost your rankings, you should definitely consider including featured snippets on your website. This is a new type of snippet that shows up under certain headings and in certain locations on the SERP. While you might think these snippets look like ads, they actually come from websites that Google has deemed relevant to the question asked. So if someone asks, "Who owns Domino's Pizza?" for example, Google might show up the featured snippet from Wikipedia, and if someone were to ask, "Why did Apple choose to move its headquarters from Cupertino to Silicon Valley?" Google would show up the featured snippet with Apple CEO Tim Cook answering the question.

It can be difficult to find sites that provide featured snippets, but you shouldn't give up hope because there's a simple workaround for how to get featured snippets on your own pages. All you have to do is add rel="author" tags to the top of each page on your site, and Google will display the snippet below your title tag. If you already have existing content on your site, you'll have to manually edit each page to include the rel="author" tags, but it's worth the effort since it's free and easy to implement.

Creating comprehensive, authoritative, evergreen content

So you've got lots of amazing content on your site, but you're not seeing the results you want? Well, it's pretty simple. You need to keep writing content every day. When people visit your site, they're not going to read everything you've published; they'll skim through it quickly to see if what you have to say interests them. As long as you consistently deliver fresh information, your visitors will always return.

The trick is to make sure your content is evergreen. Evergreen content refers to articles, blogs, books, or some other form of content that remains valuable year after year. What's unique about this type of content is that it contains useful information that you can repurpose at any time, and it's also regularly updated to reflect changing trends and industry news.

You can achieve this by creating original content that stays topical and offers value to your target market. One way to do this is by focusing on specific topics within your niche, such as "How to Choose a Roofing Contractor," "What Makes a Great Team Player," or "Why You Should Never Buy a Used Car."

Maximize user engagement

When users come across your content, they need to feel engaged and interested. They need to feel that you understand their needs and can answer their questions. You can achieve this by offering unique solutions, delivering helpful advice, and giving your visitors a sense of community. People like to connect with other people, and if they feel like you're connecting with them, they'll be much more likely to share your content with others.

One way to accomplish this is by adding a call to action button to every piece of content you publish. This can be done by placing it near the bottom of the post or above the fold, or you can even place it in between paragraphs. Just make sure that whatever you offer your readers is relevant to the topic of the post, and that you encourage them to take action immediately.

Optimize for voice search

Search engines want to serve the user rather than the advertiser, and they're constantly adapting to the needs of their end users. That means that while they're trying to give users the best possible experience, they're also doing everything they can to make their algorithms smarter and more effective. One recent change that's made an impact on voice search is called mobile-first indexing.

Mobile-first indexing means that search engines will prioritize the loading of mobile-friendly content over desktop versions. This means that if you haven't yet optimized your site for mobile devices, you're going to miss out on a lot of traffic and revenue. To avoid this, you need to ensure that all your pages work properly on any device, regardless of whether it's a smart phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.

Another thing you can do to ensure that your content performs well on mobile devices is to optimize your images for retina displays. Retina displays are twice the resolution of standard screens, which means that your graphics will look crisp and sharp.

Finally, you should always remember to submit your site to Google My Business listings. These listings allow anyone searching for your business to view your address, directions, photos, and more. These listings also let customers book appointments online, send you email inquiries, and share reviews and other information about your business.

Focus on mobile

While desktop computers remain popular, smartphones and tablets are rapidly becoming the preferred way for many people to access the Internet. In fact, according to Pew Research Center, the percentage of American adults using smartphones doubled from 2011 to 2013, and the number of Americans using tablets tripled during the same period. And if you don't have a mobile strategy, you're missing out on millions of potential customers.

To optimize your site for mobile users, you need to make sure that your navigation menu works effectively on both small and large screens. Make sure your images and text are readable on smaller screens, and also consider implementing responsive designs, which adapt automatically to fit various screen sizes. Another important step you can take is to create a separate version of your site for mobile, and then redirect the URL to that version whenever someone clicks on your mobile link in an email or on your social media profiles.

Finally, test your mobile site thoroughly before launching it to the public. Use apps like App Annie to track how often your app appears in the app stores, and also measure how often customers download it. You can also use Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools to track how often your mobile site is visited.

These are just a handful of the things you can do to maximize your visibility on the web. By applying these techniques to your business, you can grow your audience and increase your revenue.

Basics of SEO

If you have a website that is being used by your potential customers and clients, then it will be important for you to know the basic SEO techniques that you can use to improve your site. The first thing that you need to do is create an attractive web page on your website with relevant information about who you are, what services you offer, and what makes you different from the competition. While this may sound like common sense, people often forget to create these kinds of pages when they are creating their websites. In fact, many people forget to even put up any kind of home page at all! This is why you should make sure that you have a professional looking website with a good page title, as well as a good description of yourself and your business.

Once you have created a decent page with the basics down, you will want to create an online presence for your company. To do this, you will need to find ways to get traffic to your website. One of the best ways to do this is through search engine optimization (SEO). Searching engines like Google, Yahoo!, or Bing are constantly trying to provide users with the most relevant results possible. If you want to optimize your site, you will need to follow some basic rules in order to ensure that you appear prominently in the search results.

Many people think that SEO is hard to learn and understand. Fortunately, there are a lot of resources available that can help you with this process. Many people also believe that SEO costs a fortune, but the truth of the matter is that you can actually hire someone to perform the work for you. By hiring a reputable SEO company, you will not only save money, but you will also gain valuable experience that you can apply to future projects. When you hire a professional SEO company, it is crucial that you follow certain guidelines so that you do not end up getting penalized by Google or other search engines. Here are some simple tips to follow if you decide to go this route.

First, you will need to make sure that you have a proper domain name for your website. A domain name consists of three parts: the top level domain (TLD), the middle level domain (MIDDLE) and the second level domain (SLD). For example, if your company name was “ABC Corporation”, you would search for ABC Corporation.com. You will then receive a list of all the websites that are similar to yours, which includes a number of sub-domains like abccorp.com, abccorporation.org, and abccorp.net. It is important for you to choose a good domain name because they are usually quite difficult to come by.

Next, you will want to make sure that you have a very descriptive and unique URL structure. This means that instead of typing in www.abccorp.com/index.html, you need to type in www.abccorp.com/services.html. As you can see, this has a much better chance of being found than just using index.html. Additionally, make sure that every single page on your website has its own unique URL.

The next step is to create a sitemap. A sitemap is simply a list of all of the pages on your site. These pages should include the URL of each individual page. When you create a sitemap, you will need to give every single page its own URL. Also, be sure to put each page on your site into the right category. For example, if you have a blog, you will probably want to put all of your posts under one category. There are a few tools out there that can help you create a sitemap.

After you have created a sitemap, there are several things you need to do. First, you will need to submit your site to the major search engines. This is done by submitting it to Google, Yahoo, and Bing. There are several free submission tools that you can use for this purpose. Additionally, you will also need to register your website with Google and Yahoo to ensure that you are properly indexed.

Finally, make sure that you use keywords throughout your content. Use keyword phrases in your titles, tags, and descriptions. You also need to incorporate them into your URL, as well as in your body text. Doing so will make it easier for your potential customers and clients to find you.

Hopefully, these tips will help you get started with SEO. Once you have taken care of all of these steps, you will be able to reap the rewards of a higher ranking in the search engines. However, keep in mind that SEO takes time to work. If you are serious about optimizing your website, then it is probably best to hire a professional firm. They will have the necessary knowledge and experience to take care of everything for you, making your life easier in the long run.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

There are several methods that you can use to optimize your website so that it will be ranked higher in the search engine results. One of these is SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization. In this article we'll discuss some of the strategies you can employ when optimizing your website.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Keyword Research

The first step in any SEO strategy is keyword research. What keywords do people actually search for? How many times a month do they perform those searches? What are the average monthly searches? The answers to these questions are vital to determining the best keyword phrases to target with your content and SEO efforts.

It's important to note that Google doesn't rank pages based on how often users search for specific terms; instead, the algorithm takes into account the quality of the page's content, as well as the user's original intent when searching for information about a particular topic. Therefore, while it may seem counterintuitive, it's better to focus on long-tail keywords than short-tail keywords, because users are more likely to click through to your site if they're looking for something specifically related to your product or service.

SEO Tip #1 - Use Longer Keywords

When writing articles, press releases, blog posts, etc., it's important to keep your keyword phrase within 300 characters, otherwise Google won't be able to index your site properly. This means that you should avoid using shorter keywords in your content (such as "best" or "fastest") because they aren't going to get indexed by Google. Instead, consider targeting longer keywords like "how to make money online," "five ways to earn extra income," etc.

If you need to include a keyword in your title tag, title tags shouldn't exceed 70 characters. You should also limit your meta description to no more than 160 characters.

SEO Tip #2 - Include Your Keyword Phrase in Headings & Subheaders

Another thing to keep in mind is that headings and subheads provide additional context to the reader. They give them a place to anchor themselves and help them understand your overall message. If you want to target an audience who reads longform content, then include your keyword phrase in all relevant headings and subheads. For example, if you sell gardening products online, then you might have multiple subheadings such as "gardening basics," "how to grow herbs," "what are the advantages of raised beds?" and so on. These would all serve to reinforce your call to action by directing readers to your most crucial content.

SEO Tip #3 - Build Links From Other Sites

You can build links from other sites back to yours by including their URL in your signature line at the bottom of your emails. It's also a good idea to link to your website from external websites that share your niche. For example, if you own an online marketing company, then you could link out to other companies that specialize in the same kind of services as yours. Doing this will boost not only your rankings but also your traffic.

SEO Tip #4 - Link Back To External Websites

To increase the authority of your website, you should try linking back to other high-authority sites. Not only does this improve your own rank, but it helps Google know that your site is reputable and credible. There are two ways to go about doing this: internal linking and external linking. Internal linking involves creating links between your website and other pages on your site. For instance, if you have a forum post about gardening, then you would link back to that post from your homepage and any other pages where you mention gardening.

External linking involves linking out to other sites from outside sources that already have a strong reputation. Some examples of external linking include linking to industry blogs, social media accounts, and guest blogging. The more authoritative sites you link back to, the more authority your website will carry.

SEO Tip #5 - Create Unique Content

Google values unique content over rehashed material. When you write new content that isn't similar to what others have written before you, then it becomes easier to find and rank in the search engines. This is especially true for content that has been updated frequently. Make sure that your content is interesting and informative rather than boring and repetitive.

SEO Tip #6 - Write Original Content

While it's important to write unique content, you don't necessarily have to write 100% original content. Many authors are starting to experiment with content creation software such as WordPress.com and HubSpot. This allows them to take advantage of a prewritten template and create unique content without having to spend hours researching and writing from scratch. Using templates is a great way to save time and still produce high-quality content.

SEO Tip #7 - Focus On High-Quality Content

Make sure that the content on your site is valuable to your customers. Even though you may be promoting a product or service, your visitors shouldn't feel like they've wasted their time reading your content. Keep the following things in mind:

Use proper grammar and spelling

Be clear and concise

Keep sentences simple and straightforward

Avoid jargon and abbreviations

Make sure that all images and videos are relevant to your site

Provide useful information rather than just selling your product

Don't write sales copy

SEO Tip #8 - Be Consistent With Your Content

One of the biggest mistakes that can kill your SEO campaign is inconsistent content. Just because you wrote one piece of content doesn't mean that you should stop there. Always try to stay consistent with your content throughout your entire site, whether it's in the navigation bar, header, footer, sidebar, or anywhere else that makes sense for your brand.

SEO Tip #9 - Don't Overuse Images

Using too many images on your site will dilute your SEO efforts and hurt your ranking. Also, using large images that cover up important text will reduce your chances of ranking well. Try to avoid using images for anything other than decoration, since they tend to be less effective for SEO purposes.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

SEO Tip #10 - Stay Focused

As you're working on your SEO campaign, you should always remember to stay focused. You shouldn't spread yourself thin across multiple projects or even different topics. Stick to one area and focus on getting the most out of it. By focusing your attention, you can accomplish much more than if you were trying to juggle five different tasks at once.

Conclusion

These ten tips should help you achieve better results with your SEO efforts. As you implement these techniques, remember to focus on making your content more valuable to visitors and increase the amount of relevant traffic you receive.

How to Build a Website

As you know, building a website can be an intimidating task. It is not something that comes naturally for most people and it certainly isn't easy. But, with the right information in front of you, there are no obstacles that will stop you from creating your own website. All of the information you need to create your own website is within this article!

How to Build a Website

The first thing that you will need is a domain name. As part of the process of registering your domain, you will also get access to your web hosting account. Your website will be hosted on one or more servers that are located somewhere on the internet. You will then install software on your computer which will allow you to view and edit the pages you have created. This software will also provide you with all of the tools you will need to manage your site effectively. So what exactly do you need? Let us take a look at each step in detail.

Choosing a Domain Name

Your domain name is very important because without it, your website will never be found on the internet. This is especially true if you only want to build a personal website for yourself. However, even if you intend to share your website with others, you still need a domain name because it is through your domain name that others will find your website when they search online. There are many different ways to choose a domain name but here are the basic steps involved.

How to Build a Website

1) Choose a keyword related to your business or hobby;

2) Find out if the exact same domain name has already been taken by someone else;

3) Check to see if the domain name is available for purchase;

4) If available, register the domain name for $10 per year or less;

5) Once registered, check back every few months and make sure the domain name hasn't expired!

If you are planning to build a website for others, you can use a company's domain name or you can simply buy a free domain name. Either way, your domain name must reflect your business or your hobby so be careful about choosing one that may cause confusion or conflict with another business. The best example would be using "www.yourbusinessname.com" as opposed to "www.yourbusinessname.org". The former is better because it has more potential to be easily recognized by visitors who are searching for your company on the internet. A good rule-of-thumb is to avoid words that end in vowels (a, e, i, o, u). Words like "co", "info", "portal", "web", etc. are also discouraged because they often appear in business names. Finally, don't forget to keep your company name short!

Finding Your Hosting Account

Once you have decided on a domain name, it is time to find a place to store your website. This is where your hosting account comes into play. Your hosting account allows you to upload files, images and other content to your server. When you have uploaded everything necessary to display your website, your hosting account will allow you to publish and view your website online. There are several types of hosting accounts and they vary greatly in cost and features. For example, some hosting providers offer unlimited space and bandwidth while others limit both space and bandwidth. Some charge monthly fees while others charge annually. And, some hosting providers give you complete control over your website while others require you to follow their instructions completely.

It is always best to shop around for the best possible deal before purchasing hosting services. Most hosts offer multiple plans so it is a good idea to compare rates across several providers to see which plan works best for you. Remember, you can always upgrade later if needed.

Installing WordPress

WordPress is a popular content management system (CMS) that allows you to write and publish your own website. It allows you to add blog posts, articles, links, pictures, videos, polls, forums and much more. By learning how to properly install and configure WordPress, you will be able to start publishing your website immediately.

First, download and install WordPress onto your computer. After installation is complete, you will need to activate the plugin. To do this, click on Plugins in the left panel. Then click Activate under WordPress Plugins. Next, enter the following URL in your browser bar and hit Enter: http://wordpress.org/extend/. A new tab should open up containing the WordPress Dashboard. Click on Dashboard and then click on Settings.

Next, enter the username and password you wish to use when accessing your WordPress dashboard. Also, enter any existing passwords you may have used to log into your WordPress dashboard previously. Now, click on Users and Groups. Here, you will notice three groups labeled Administrator, Editor and Author.

Administrator - Used to administer your WordPress account.

Editor - Used to edit your WordPress account.

Author - Used to publish your WordPress account.

Click on the drop down menu next to each group. In order to change the administrator status, select User Role Screen Options and then click Save Changes. Now, click on the drop down menu again and select Moderator. Select Edit and check the box next to Super Admin. Click Save Changes.

Now, click on Appearance > Menus and then click Add New Menu Item. Under My Sites, type in the domain of your desired website. For example, if you want to build a website for your business, type in www.mybusinesssite.com. Under Link, type in the link you would like visitors to see when visiting your site (i.e., /home).

Finally, click on Settings and then go to Reading. Change the setting from Public to Private. Make sure to click Save Changes.

Adding Content to Your Website

After configuring your WordPress dashboard, it is now time to start adding content to your website.

Blog Posts

You will need to set up a blog for your website in order to regularly update your visitors with new content. Blogs typically contain text and photographs, but sometimes blogs also include video and audio clips. You can add blog posts directly from your WordPress dashboard just by clicking on Add New Post.

Images & Videos

Another common type of content contained within a blog post is an image or video. To add these items, visit Media Library in your WordPress dashboard. From here, you can upload images and videos, as well as add descriptions.

To create a photo gallery, click on Photos in your WordPress dashboard. From here you can add photos by uploading them from your local hard drive or you can drag and drop images from your desktop directly into your gallery.

For videos, click on Videos in your WordPress dashboard. From here, you can either upload videos from your local hard drive or you can drag and drop videos from your desktop directly into your video gallery.

Links

Links are one of the most powerful aspects of blogging. They allow your readers to quickly jump from topic to topic. Links can be added within your blog post or they can be placed in sidebars, footers, headers and anywhere else you see fit. By placing links throughout your website, you increase the likelihood that your audience will return to your blog frequently.

Plugins

There are thousands of plugins available for WordPress. These plugins allow you to enhance your website in a variety of ways. For example, a plugin called Akismet protects your blog against spam comments. Another great plugin is Visual Composer which allows you to design your own layouts and templates. Other useful plugins include Yoast SEO, Contact Form 7 and WPtouch.

Conclusion

When you have completed the above tasks, you should now have a functional website that is capable of providing you with valuable content. Building a website from scratch is not a simple task, but it is definitely much easier than trying to modify a poorly designed blog template. When you learn how to build your own website, you will be able to control every aspect of your website including its appearance, functionality and security.

And, once your website is built, you will be able to create additional sites with minimal effort and maximum results.

Small Business Marketing Tips

If you are a small business owner, then there is no doubt that marketing your products and services to attract new customers can be challenging. There are many factors to consider when it comes to creating effective marketing strategies for your company. In this article we will discuss some of the most important aspects of successful marketing for businesses with less than 50 employees.

When starting out as an entrepreneur, one of the first things that you need to do is decide what type of market research you want to conduct before you begin advertising or selling your product. You should know exactly who your target audience is so that you can make sure that you are reaching out to them in the right way. For instance, if you sell children's toys, then you may want to focus on parents rather than kids. If you sell clothing, then you may want to focus more towards women than men. The key here is to really think about how people perceive your brand. Once you have figured out what kind of market research you would like to perform, you will be able to figure out which marketing methods work best for each individual demographic. This is why it is always better to start off by conducting just a simple survey instead of trying to test every possible combination of marketing techniques at once.

Once you have decided on your demographics, you will also need to identify their buying habits. Do they prefer to buy online? Or perhaps they only shop at big box stores such as Walmart or Target? It is very important to pay attention to these details because they could help you choose where to place advertisements. For example, someone who prefers to buy items from large retailers might not feel comfortable shopping online but they could easily go into a brick-and-mortar store if they saw something appealing. As another example, someone who shops mostly at local grocery stores might not even notice an advertisement for your company unless they were specifically looking for it. So, it is all about knowing your customer base well enough to see what works best for them.

After determining your demographics and buying habits, you will need to determine whether you will use traditional media (such as television) or social media outlets (like Facebook) to promote your business. Obviously, both mediums have pros and cons, but ultimately it depends on how much money you have available to spend on advertising. Television tends to cost money upfront while social media websites tend to cost nothing up front but require a lot of time and effort to maintain. However, since most companies don't have a lot of resources to dedicate to advertising, it makes sense to try using both channels in order to reach as many people as possible.

The next step after figuring out which types of marketing to use is deciding what platforms or devices you will use to advertise. Most companies opt to use social media sites such as Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, and others. These sites allow users to post content and share information through links, photos, videos, etc. Many advertisers take advantage of this feature by posting coupons, special deals, promotional offers, and other free giveaways to increase exposure and sales. Another great thing about these platforms is that you can customize your ads to show different promotions depending on the day of the week, time of year, etc. Some people argue that social media is not worth spending any money on because it is too costly to run campaigns on these sites. But, it is important to remember that you get what you pay for. Social media advertising costs much less than TV commercials, especially if you are willing to invest a little bit
